Microsoft Teases New Features in Windows Phone 7 Software Update

By Mat Smith on Thursday, February 3 2011It comes up to a month since Microsoft first trumpeted a free update to its Windows 7 Phone handsets. Now they have revealed on their U.S. site what this update will do, and that's basically what they told us in January. Copy and paste comes over the phone, which means we will not have to carefully remember phone numbers, e-mail addresses or physical addresses anymore. You will then be able to transplant this info into Office documents, e-mail and the rest. Good stuff, but then we still want to find addresses that our American cousinsThe WP7 update will give users both the loading speed and performance increases to their range of applications and games. Their app and music store, market place, will also be re-jigged so that you can then search for programs exclusively, to avoid confusing the search results with songs and albums mixed in. That's about it.

If you're expecting an update to WinPho7, it is best to cheque that your phone is set up to take hold of it.
Finally, the next software update promises a tweaked search function in Windows Phone Marketplace: when searching for apps and games, you will not now face a barrage of music performance as well.
Find Phone update page, which is under settings so make sure you have checked the box that says Notify me when new updates are found.
Color us a bit underwhelmed.
Microsoft says, however, this is a look at some of what's ahead, so hopefully there is more to the first Windows 7 Phone update than the features above.
The company has not announced a date for the update, or has it shed any light on whether each WP7 user will get it at the same time.
Android users often complain about the lag between Google launches new version of its OS, and their carrier and / or phone maker actually makes it possible.
Here's hoping Microsoft has learnt from it.
Finally, the company has not mentioned bug fixes, but we assume that the now infamous \phantom data \leakage problem will be squeezed in the update as well.
