Windows Phone 7 Marketplace app count bests BlackBerry?

When Apple launched the App Store, I have no doubt in my mind that Steve Jobs, Apple and the rest of the crew knew only that the apps would be the next big hit.
Either that or they took a pretty big leap of faith, his hands over his eyes and screamed loudly.
But it went down, we know that the success of applications is now very relevant to a device, or more specifically a particular mobile operating success.
No apps, not a platform does not have much of a chance to succeed.
And that is why I am never surprised any more to see people so engaged with their smart phones these days, no matter what they do.
And it gotten me wondering: what is your cell phone addiction I went out to dinner last night, and when I looked around the restaurant I saw the same thing I usually see: the people on their cell phones.
This is such a regular event now that I do not even think twice about it.
But tonight, I began to wonder just how many of them were actually using a program of any kind, or playing a game or watch a video.
And before I could stop myself, I realised that my phone was out, and I was getting ready to take part in another exciting game of Bejeweled LIVE (Windows Phone 7).
And just like that I realized that the programs are a great, if not perfect way to pass the time, be it much or little.
I watched as people used their phones to show off of something, and I saw that a program of any kind was actually used to help a conversation along.
It was probably a couple of videos that appear here and there, as I heard lots of laughter from people staring at their phones.
There is no way for me to know what all these people did, but I think it's a safe assumption to believe the program had nothing to do with all that cheerfulness.
And that's where the question of the article comes in.
However, if you had to narrow it down, which apps you use most? For me, I find myself playing games way more than anything else.
Of course, I still cheque social networking apps more oftentimes than I should, but in nine out of ten it's usually a game on my smartphone screen.
As I mentioned above, Bejeweled LIVE a soft spot in my heart, but it makes games like Infinity Blade (IOS), The Harvest (Windows Phone 7), and fruit Ninja (IOS, Android, Windows Phone 7).
If I could do that and still be marginally successful in one of these titles, I would play them all at the same time.
I can not necessarily depend on, but I'm definitely a fan, and if I have a few minutes to spare, I'm going to play one of those games.
Remember, recognition is the first step.

Nokia to churn out Windows Phone 7 devices consistently

Microsoft lists new features in Windows 7 Phone Mango 1 of 5 GalleryPosted 25 May 2011 1:25 p.m. Microsoft held a global press conference yesterday to talk about the next version of Windows 7 Phone, code-named Mango, and to announce the release of beta version of developer tools. It also announced three new hardware partners - Acer, Fujitsu and ZTE - but there were no announcements about new phones and no fixed dates announced. Microsoft promised the new operating system, and new phones will be available in early autumn this year. Microsoft Corporate Vise President for Windows Phone Marketing, Achim Berg, told a gathering of journalists and developers that Mango was a big issue where communication, and the Web apps, the primary focus. Berg claimed that Mango will be the first mobile operating system to collect communication across a range of services such as Facebook, SMS and e-mail.
We were impressed with Windows 7 Phone (WP7) when it was first launched.
The new patch should see the programs become more integrated with the operating system, for example, with the possibility of apps to create new live tiles on the phone's main screen, or the ability to pass the search for speciality apps from other apps - such as the ability to search for a movie on IMDB when looking for cinema listings app in a Rock was keen to showcase local Scout, a search tool that used the phone's GPS chip to provide search results that were more relevant to your current position. Berg claimed that the version of Internet Explorer 9 on the phone will be exactly the same as IE9 on PC, with the same code. He showed a demo (from Microsoft's developer website) which made a season of HTML5 graphics in less time than on an iPhone using Apple's Safari browser. Mango will bring hardware acceleration to phones, so that certain operations HTML5 can be increased by using the phone's graphics chip.
However, it was clear, even from day one, they upgraded the operating system required a lot of work to catch up with the other smartphone platforms.
Of course, WP7 also ties in with Microsoft's properties, such as 365 Office, SkyDrive and Windows Live.
After previously NoDo update that added the cut and paste, Microsoft has now launched a major update to WP7, code-named Mango, which goes a long way to deal with many of our concerns.
Groups A new interface lets you create groups of contacts, and Mango will then automatically total communication across a range of services for these contacts.
The biggest new feature is the addition of Mango multitasking.
Windows 7 Phone is surely a well-designed interface, but as with most Microsoft products, it just seems like Microsoft wants it to work, as evidenced by the way apps take a back seat to the operating system.
Until Mango, only a select few Microsoft programs can be run simultaneously, but multitasking will soon be available to all third-party applications.
Far from being groundbreaking, most of the features of WP7 be found on other phones such as HTC's Sense for Android, which brings together your contacts, calendars and communication among a greater number of services.
Just press and hold the phone's Back button to bring up a scrollable list of minimized thumbnails, each representing approximately one hour.
In addition, applications for Android already import their contacts, updates and events in the primary phone stores - for example, last.fm app lets you import your last.fm friends in the phone main Contacts database.
Unfortunately, the thumbnails do not update in real time, as they do on the Blackberry playbook.
Our overwhelming impression from the press conference was that Microsoft lives in a bubble where it has just invented the smartphone.
Nor can you drag upward to close an app, as with the playbook and WebOS phones.
Unfortunately, the world already own either an iPhone or an Android phone, and only those connected to a Microsoft-based corporate ecosystem will find some of Mango's new features revolutionary.
Multitasking will soon be available to all third-party applications.
Author: Barry de la Rosa.
Microsoft has also added several new features to make communication easier
.
Groups A hub allows you to communicate with more people using the method you choose, such as SMS, e-mail or IM, without having to use separate applications
.
All the messages from these services is then threaded into a conversation view, making it easier to distinguish who said what and when
.
Again, these features have been available in rival smartphone operating systems, but it's good to see their inclusion in Mango
.
Groups messaging feature in Windows Phone mango something of the most useful extensions have been made for heavy e-mail users, especially Exchange users
.
In addition to the conversation view, it is possible to have more unified inboxes
.
For example, you can combine your personal webmail accounts in one inbox and Exchange office accounts to a separate inbox
.
This feature will greatly appeal to anyone who uses a single phone for both work and pleasure
.

Web-Based Windows Phone 7 App Store Arriving with Mango

Microsoft is putting together a web-based version of its application store for Windows 7 Phone smart phones, in the fashion of leading app stores from Apple and Google.
SOFTWARE HOUSE Microsoft has announced a web-based version of Windows 7 Phone (WP7) Marketplace that will come out with Mango update to its mobile operating system.
Web-based Windows 7 Phone Marketplace coming this fall, in time for the release of Mango, Microsoft's latest update to its smart phone operating system.
You will be able to purchase apps via the web-based WP7 Marketplace, which will be linked to an account that is already mapped to your existing Windows Live ID.
Web Windows 7 Phone Market Place will be very similar to Google's Android and Apple's offer.
The app will then be automatically downloaded wirelessly to the device, or you can choose to install it later.
You can scroll through the entire app directory, see the screenshots of the apps, and cheque out details and reviews.
A download history will be saved that will make it possible to install programs.
Microsoft is conducting a great discovery function, which allows you to share your favourite apps via a link in the e-mail or social networking recommendations on Facebook and Twitter.
Parental controls will also allow control of which programs children can use or block them from downloading programs that cost money.
Billing-wise, using the forthcoming Web Marketplace same transaction method of smart phones, via a credit card linked to your existing Windows Live ID.
In an attempt to lure developers with a Windows phone blog says: As a Windows phone developer, you [will] be all the more visible without the extra work.
A useful feature of Windows 7 Phone Web Marketplace is the purchase: the store will track your purchases, so when you upgrade your phone, you can install all your purchased apps at once.
It is, we will also have more placement areas to provide featured apps with additional visibility and marketing opportunities.
Web App Store is part of Microsoft's push to be relevant again in the smart phone arena dominated by Apple and Google.
Currently WP7 Marketplace offers over 17,000 apps and has 42 000 registered developers.
The company's Windows 7 Phone Mango update promises to bring approximately 500 news features, including some long overdue improvements such as third-party multi-tasking.
WP7 seems to be off of the pace compared with Google's Android Market, which already has a web version and over 200,000 applications, while Apple has just hit the 500,000 mark of approved applications in the App Store.
A bunch of new Windows 7 Phone devices are expected to arrive at the same time as well from Acer, Fujitsu, HTC, Nokia, Samsung and ZTE.

Nokia N9 ad leaked

Nokia launches TV Ovi Nokia Services Of Sardar Mohkim Khan 17 May 2011, again a CommentI'm not sure how exactly to put this, but in my opinion, Nokia is finally burn all the boats to head forwards in the right direction.
Nokia has been an interesting year that has already seen them advertise that they will be using Windows Phone 7 on some of its smartphones, which is the first time they've used a third-party operating system. In addition, they have now announced their Ovi services will be renamed to Nokia services. Ovi services are all programs that Nokia has on your mobile and includes Ovi Maps, Ovi Music, Ovi Post and many more. Services will be renamed from July this year, Nokia hopes to have completed the process across all countries by the end of 2012. We expect a heavy marketing campaign with Nokia Music, Nokia Maps and Nokia Mail and more over the next few months. The move is a logical step and we are not sure why Nokia choose Ovi brand in the first place.
Whether it is working with Microsoft to get Windows 7 Phone powered devices or the much hyped to be rid of Nokia from his inheritance of the Symbian operating system.
The rebranding of Ovi services is less important but still could give Nokia a well-needed boost.
The company yesterday announced it will rebrand its Ovi Store to Nokia services.
The transition is expected to start in mid July this year and will continue to early 2012.The service is expected to arrive at the forthcoming Nokia devices in July and August period, which means that the transition is only intended for existing devices.
I'm not sure how this is possible, but Nokia promises to insure the transition is smooth and occurs without disrupting services to their consumers.
Our mobile experience is tightly integrated with our units - it is no longer a differentiation
.
Why was the difference created in the first place? I totally understand that it's just a change of name, but again why did not they go with Nokia from day one? Ovi was an experiment during practise for a few years? Or better yet, the Nokia finally letting go of what it has experienced in recent years and start again in 2012? Too much to ask and pretty much to expect, I look forward to the coming year, anticipating the whole what it had delivered in the pre-iPhone, Android Arena
.
To sum it up, I opine that the unifying brand under one name is a welcome move
.
Think about it, Nokia, Ovi, Symbian, and Windows 7 MeeGo Telephone everything to be a part of Nokia, one less name associated with the Nokia experience less confusing, if not fantastic

Fujitsu phone dual-boots Symbian, Windows 7

Mobile PhonesFujitsu named Japan's futuristic new LOOX F-07C is designed to function as both a smartphone and a mini-tablet, packing Symbian and Windows 7.Hang in a minute! Windows 7? Lest the shock of a double-starts mobile devices makes confusion to set in, we're not talking about Windows 7 Phone.
It has been made official that a Fujitsu dual-booting the phone running both Symbian and Windows 7 will be launched later this year. Dual-booting devices is a rarity in itself, but Fujitsu LOOX F-07C seems to be one of a kind device running the odd combination of operating systems. While Symbian may have some life left in it even more obvious choice for a dual-booting the device would be Android, despite everything, there is a dual-boot Windows / Android device on the market in the form of ViewSonic's ViewPad 10 Running Windows 7 over Windows 7 Phone seems to be an indication that the point of this unit is to provide an apparatus that can function as a phone and a laptop rather than one that offers a smorgasbord of mobile operating systems. If the thought of having a phone that can switch between Windows and Symbian is not appealing when it is at least pretty good spec'd.
No, this baby crams in 32-bit Japanese version of Windows 7 Home Premium, Engadget reports.
Internal storage comes in the form of a 32GB SSD drive and there is also support for a microSD card to expand memory.
How bizarre that OMC put it back in 1996.The original spec list mentions a 1.2 GHz Atom processor, so it would certainly have a good go to run Microsoft's latest operating system, albeit with some processor-intensive functions such as Full HD Playback missing.
It is of course a slide-out QWERTY keyboard that should make things easier when you use the two-year licence for Microsoft Office Personal 2010.
The unnamed chip is unlikely to be Intel's new Z760, which will run at 1.5 GHz.
The two operating systems represent two different modes.
The 2 cm thick phone has a beautiful 4-inch touch screen pimping a 1024 X600 pixel resolution (only slightly higher than the 16:9 widescreen) and a slide-out keyboard.
When the mobile phone mode phone will use Symbian and can deliver a battery life of 370 minutes of talk time on 3G.
Early video of the device shows it sits in a USB docking station, which means it can be used as a desktop replacement on a push
When in this mode, Windows 7 drops to a much lower 2 hours, and when the battery gets low the device automatically goes back to Symbian.
.
This original phone will launch with NTT DoCoMo around June / July and is expected to cost around ¥ 70,000 ($ 866).
It may end up permanently attached to the pier on its specifications are to be believed - in Windows 7 mode has a 2-hour battery life
.
Apparently it goes for the Symbian phone when the battery is low
.
We believe consumers will spend much time with the Nokia's one-time best friend
.
It features two cameras - a 5-megapixel snapper with face detection and autofocus, and a 0.3-megapixel efforts for video calls
.
It takes a microSD card up to 32GB
.
With a June or July launch date, converts it expected the price to around £ 540
.
Whether it ever leaves Japan is another matter
.
We have already seen some interesting concepts from Fujitsu, but no British market for phones
.
On a practical note, we are not convinced sticking a full-fledged version of Windows on a smart phone is such a live, active move
.
Why not drop the dual-boot shenanigans, throw out Symbian and load it up with Windows phone instead? Or better yet, Android?
.

Nokia is still sinking: the N9 video shows it just doesn't get it

A TV ad for the aborted Nokia N9 has appeared online, giving smart fans a glimpse of Nokia's future if it had not connected with Microsoft.
18. May 2011Nokia C6-01 Reviewby Franz BicarThe Nokia C6-01 can not be at the top of the market for smart phones, it offers features that are far better than most units in the mid-range category. C6-01 features Nokia's clear black AMOLED displays and comes in a compact metal housing. The rectangular shape makes it comfortable to carry around in your hands or pocket. Its stainless steel gives the phone a solid appearance and protection against scratches. There are several physical buttons on the C6-01. You have dedicated call and end buttons below the screen, a menu button in the center, and a lock, volume, and camera controls to the right. On the flip side, you have an 8-megapixel camera with dual LED flash, which is, for most manufacturers, the standard today. C6-01-HD screen is a 3.2-inch AMOLED capacitive touch screen that supports 16 million colors and 360 x 640 pixels resolution.
Cheque out the clip itself belowNokia scrapped plans for what was purported to be the next in its Nseries phones and supposedly the first to run its much touted MeeGo OS after inking a deal with the Big M to make phones that run its proprietary Windows Phone 7 platform .
Furthermore, the screen covered by scratch-resistant glass Gorilla, which makes it almost unbreakable. As with most Nokia phones, is C6-01 packaged. You have quad-band GSM / EDGE and penta-band HSPA / WCDMA for use on European 3G networks. It can also work on AT&T and T-Mobile USA. Bluetooth 3.0, WiFi b / g / n, an FM radio, GPS / A-GPS and USB 2.0. It comes with a 2GB microSD card with support for 32 GB cards. Nokia C6-01 runs on the Symbian ^ 3 With Nokia's collaboration with Microsoft, I'm not too sure what will happen with Symbian. Still, the once largest mobile OS is now on a decline. Nokia made the promise to continue to drop Symbian phones, but most of its resources will most likely be focused on Windows 7 Phone development to compete with market leaders. Nevertheless, Nokia's Symbian OS-01 and C6 a solid smart phone. It does not have all the flash and polish of Ios or Android devices, but it can certainly compete.
The clip, which was picked up by PocketNow.com, confirms much of what we could have guessed quite a lot about the phone, as slide-out keyboard that's been the hallmark of the Nseries range and a 12-megapixel snapper.
Software preinstalled on the phone includes a calendar, calculator, file manager, recorder, Adobe PDF, Quick Office, Zip, Glossary, Message reader, Traveler, F-Secure, a music player, stereo FM RDS radio and Ovi Music.
But we get a good look at the much-rumored super sharp virtual panel and the newly renamed Ovi Suite of services.
C6-01's 8-megapixel camera is a nice addition to this mid range device.
Somewhat surprisingly, even if we get a gander at what appears to be a clean and polished user interface, it is not entirely clear whether it is MeeGo that we see or are about to land Anna patch for Symbian.
You can record videos up to 1280 x 720 resolution at 25fps.
But it is fascinating to think what could have been even more so. Loading ... 2 CommentsOnly view comments @ top10uk, May 18, 2011, via Twitter. The only drawback is that its prone to blur when panning around.
As for taking pictures, make that C6-01 camera users to take quick and easy shots, with a single press camera shortcut, and little in the way of lag between pressing the button and the grip frame.
As a Nokia device, C6-01 solid and reliable.
Battery life is estimated at up to 720 minutes talk time or 420 hours when on standby.
C6-01 can make it through two days with push email turned on and moderate calls, messages and browser user.

Estimate: 2.5M Windows Phone 7 Shipments in Q1

HTC and Samsung makes a killing selling mobile phones, mainly thanks to Android.
Nokia, unfortunately, is lagging, but not out of the picture.
But because of the sheer volume of these three phones seller, can the future be good for Windows 7 Phone like HTC, Samsung and, soon, Nokia, offers WP7 handsets.
The iPhone is not struggling.
It looks as if the market gains of these players came mostly at the expense of RIM's BlackBerry devices.
HTC (Check if model is pictured) saw global sales of smartphones jump by 229.6 percent in the first quarter of 2011 to 8,900,000 units, from only 2.7 million in the year ago quarter, giving it a market share of 8.9 per cent against 4.9 percent a year ago, according to figures released this afternoon by IDC.
The market share fell dramatically, however, to 24.3 percent in the first quarter from 38.8 percent a year earlier.
This gives even more reason for Nokia to abandon its Symbian operating system Windows 7 Phone, although Nokia's running WP7 will not be available until October at the earliest.
Earlier this week, Nokia announced Chairman Jorma Ollila, he will leave the company next year.
While some readers of this blog is quick to connect the words with Windows 7 Phone FAIL, I think the long-term outlook for the OS good.
Despite the nagging, perhaps exasperating, problems with installing NoDo update, I've oftentimes said that I find WP7 competitive with Android OS and Apple the IOS.
It's user interface is easy to navigate, and it's developer community is growing at a healthy pace.
And I think that Microsoft will have a strong Nokia bang when the devices come to market.
IDC seems to agree with me.
Other highlights from the survey: Apple iPhone sales grew 114.4 percent to 18.7 million units, from 8.7 million the year before, for a market share of 18.7 percent from 15.7 percent.
Research In Motion sales of 13.9 million BlackBerry smartphones in Q1, an 31.1 percent increase from the year ago quarter.
Like Nokia, though, the BlackBerry's market share also fell, by 13.9 percent from 19.1 percent a year earlier.
Overall, jumped global smartphone sales 79.7 per cent in 1 quarter to 99.6 million units from 55.4 million years ago, as consumers trade in mobile phones for the more feature-rich smartphones at a rapid pace.

More Android and WP7 Smartphones Coming to AT&T

Android and Windows 7 Phone device fans with AT&T, are the words you can expect more Android and Windows 7 Phone smart phones hit the AT&T in the coming months, with the first being a Windows 7 Phone robust Pantech slider. According to Phone Scoop in the form of PC Mag, Jeff Bradley, senior vice president of mobile devices for AT&T says Pantech slider will be followed by a nice, big-screen side-sliding Android device, there is an area we need to record. Bradley further stated that Pantech Slider is a cool little device, it looks a little like a [Casio] G-Shock ... a little more outside, and it is more durable than a classic side-slider. Apparently AT&T Windows 7 Phone devices are doing well, and the company looks forwards to offering the HTC HD7S, which will come with Mango update in the not too distant future. Bradley said ... Mango will be the next event.
We are working very, very actively on the ecosystem and Microsoft.
Furthermore, AT&T has apparently plans to change its policy that stops Android phones does not install the Android Market applications, with the first step that the activation of the Amazon Appstore.

Estimate: 2.5M Windows Phone 7 Shipments in Q1

Global smart phone shipments grew 79.7 percent in the first fourth of 2011, according to IDC, which released the figures today.
Apple moved into second place, pushing ahead of ailing Research in Motion and close the gap on Nokia.
Manufacturers shipped 99600000 smartphones in the quarter, up from 55.4 million units last year.
Most surprising is Apple's change with respect to Nokia.
In Q1 2010, 12.8 million units separated the two handset manufacturers.
Last quarter, Apple closed the gap to 5.5 million.
Given Nokia's transition to Windows 7 Phone and Apple's continued expansion carrier, especially China and the United States, it is conceivable Apple could match or pull ahead of Nokia in 2011.From a growth perspective, the quarter belonged to Samsung and HTC, which posted 350 percent and 230 percent year-over-year growth, respectively.
The smartphone wars are fully engaged, with no clear winner in sight - if it ever will be one - despite Nokia Apple horse race.
Top Rated ships Nokia phones with Symbian (ahead of a move to Windows phone); Apple phones have IOS, and third-rank RIM offers BlackBerry OS.
So is the fourth ranked Samsung, which is doing well shipping a variety of operating systems.
If anything, defines the fragmentation of the smartphone market right now - at least as measured by leading suppliers.
Then there is the HTC and Samsung growth, which comes in part from Google's mobile OS.
The emergence of Android as a prominent mobile operating system has made several suppliers to get the part quickly, said Restivo.
Year over year, Samsung's market share rose from 4.3 percent to 10.8 percent, while HTC pulled up from 4.9 percent to 8.9 percent.
But the shipment gains are more impressive with the Samsung more than quadrupled and more than tripling the HTC smartphone shipments.
Meanwhile, Nokia and RIM lost ratio, 38.8 per cent to 24.2 per cent and 19.1 per cent to 14 per cent, respectively.
In comparison, Apple shipments rose 114.4 percent, with a market share of 3 points to 18.7 percent and shipments up 10 to 18.7 million.
More broadly, the market has hit its stride, said Ramon Llamas, IDC senior analyst, said in a statement: Conditions in the market for smart phones is to create a perfect storm for lasting smartphone growth.
First, suppliers are increasingly focuses on smart phones as key to its growth.
Second, the Committee has proliferated from mainly high-end equipment to include more mid-range and entry-level deals.
Third, the pricing has become increasingly competitive, with even high-end equipment available at low price points.
Finally, the users continue to seek greater benefits from their mobile phone beyond voice, and smart phones have been the ideal solution.
Together these add up to continued smartphone growth through the year.
The race to watch is between Apple and Nokia.
Anyone want to bet on a winner? Or state the odds? You know what comments are for.

Windows Phone Marketplace shut to users

Disgruntled users have been locked out of Windows Phone Marketplace for perhaps as long as twenty hours, but Microsoft has not been able to adequately explain why.
Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) reopened its Windows Phone Market Place on Thursday evening after technical problems left some users can not download and update mobile applications.
In a blog mail Microsoft responded to user complaints with a simple message, just wanted to tell you that we're investigating reports that some people have problems with downloading programs from the Windows Phone Market Place.
Writing on the Windows Phone Blog, explains Microsoft employee Michael Stroh that some Windows 7 Phone users trying to download apps received error messages reading Can not get this information right now.
The fact that most people try to use it already knew that this was apparently lost on the firm.
Come back in a little while.
For example, one user at The Inquirer towers were shut out for over two hours.
Stroh said that Microsoft identified and fixed the problem within a few hours, blaming the snafu on planned maintenance is performed on Microsoft's infrastructure during the night, adding the company is taking steps to avoid future disruption to the Marketplace Services.
Microsoft added, The root of this problem has been identified and measures are taken to avoid future disruptions in the Marketplace service.
Windows Phone Marketplace lockout is the latest software hiccups affecting Windows 7 Phone platform in recent weeks - in particular, Microsoft delayed the construction of its first major WP7 update in late March because of the challenges in the course of releasing a minor update weeks earlier .
We asked Microsoft for more information about the problem, including rumors of the proposal that it was related to the last update which brought Nodo copy and paste functionality in Windows 7 Phone operating system.
At its annual MIX event last month announced Microsoft will release the next iteration of Windows 7 Phone later this year - code-named Mango, promises the developers update a major overhaul including improved multitasking capabilities, expanded Office document support, and a hardware-accelerated version of Internet Explorer 9 Microsoft has also promised to improve Windows Phone Market Place, introducing a betting shop and expand sales to 35 new international markets. Dell Venue Pro

Dell Venue Pro was announced in October last year, along with a host of other smartphones that run the then new Windows 7 Phone. But the Pro Venue suffered several delays, and has only lately become available for purchase. It is the only Windows 7 Phone handset with a slide-out (portrait format) QWERTY keyboard, a feature that has seen it dubbed as a business-friendly smartphone. Our review sample came from Clove Technology, where it costs £ 420 (inc, £ 350 ex VAT.) SIM free. Venue DesignThe Pro is quite a chunky smart phone, thanks not only to the keyboard, but also for its large screen. Measuring 4.1 inches across the diagonal, it edges toward the upper limit of the screen before the hardware is simply too unwieldy to handle comfortably. At 192g, it is the venue Pro significantly heavier than 4.3in. HTC 7 HD, which weighs 162g. It is also heavier than the HTC 7 Pro, which - even with its landscape-format slide-out keyboard and 3.6in. display - comes in at 185g.
SummaryIMHO, Dell Venue Pro is the nicest Windows 7 Phone device available and now AT&T customers can pick up. topic Dell Computer Corp., Device, AT&T Corp., Dell Venue Pro NoDo, Pricing, Microsoft Windows, Marketing Research, Keyboards, Marketing, Operating Systems, software, hardware, accessories, began Matthew miller blogs InfoMatthew MillerBioContactBiographyMatthew Miller Matthew Miller uses a Pilot 1000 in 1997 and has been writing news, reviews and opinion pieces since then. This is especially noticeable when you try to press out the text with one hand - we found the big screen too large to use the keyboard on the screen comfortably with one hand.
He can be found on various discussion fora under the username of the palm solo.
For the record, the venue Pro measures 122mm by 63.5mm by 15.25mm.

Ergonomics is a trade off, of course, and the large viewing area is great for reading e-mail, scan Web pages and view the media.
The resolution is Windows 7 Phone's standard 480 x 800 pixels, but the venue Pro AMOLED screen technology ensures a particularly sharp and clear screen.
Dell Venue Pro Windows 7 Phone smart phone is known for its slide-out in portrait format mini-QWERTY keyboardThe sliding mechanism that reveals the mini-QWERTY keyboard is very smooth, but we prefer a bit more of an action \sprung \and less need to actually push and pull.
Keyboard covers an area of \u200b\u200bonly 55 mm wide and 30 mm high and consists of four rows of contiguous keys.
Most keys have a secondary function, which gives access to numbers and a number of punctuation.
But it'£'not present, while'$'is.
To get there earlier, you must hit the Sym button on the bottom row, and then move to a second display of symbols.
For a phone primarily for business customers, it is surprising to see a separate button for emoticons, we would like to see @ the key in this first track to the right of the spacebar.
As usual, on-screen keyboard in both landscape and portrait mode is also available.
The'£'character, incidentally, is the first symbol on the screen in this case.
You must use the keypad on the screen when working in landscape mode, and we found typing on the screen in both modes about as fast as using the physical keyboard.
The chassis design differs somewhat from the standard black and silver livery business: the back plate has a fine etched diamond pattern, but the use of plastic is all a bit disappointing, and the back plate is pretty flimsy.
The backplate is also slightly bent, which gives a pleasing design, but means Venue Pro is not flat on a table, wobbling around when you touch the screen.
When the handset will designers learn that a flat back plate is very important for on-desk use? Microsoft stipluates three front buttons for search, Back and Start (main screen) functions, and these are large, touch-sensitive areas on the face of Venue Pro chassis below the screen.
Another Microsoft requirement is a side button for camera, in this case, a 5-megapixel device, it is also a volume rocker, a micro USB on the bottom, plus a 3.5 mm headset jack and an on / off switch top.
FeaturesThe Dell Venue Pro is a bit behind the leaders in terms of its general specifications.
It's powered by a single-core 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8250 processor, while the latest batch of top-end smart phones such as LG's Optimus 2X and the forthcoming HTC Sensation has dual-core processors.
More of a concern for many users may be that the Venue Pro has no removable storage media, which prohibits Microsoft from Windows 7 Phone devices.
Our review unit had a built-in 8GB storage space, and all used to the hot-swapping microSD cards can be less than impressed - especially considering microSD cards currently go up to 32 GB.
Wi-Fi (802.11b/g/n), Bluetooth (2.1 + EDR) and GPS are all present and correct, together with HSPA at 7.2 Mbps down and 5.76Mbps up.
It's also an FM radio and two speakers on the bottom of the chassis delivers reasonable volume.
Dell has just chosen to work with the earlier contenders stuff with a vanilla deploying Windows Phone 7.In appearance, we offer Venue Pro a known number of tiles on the main screen, which can cord to actual data (for example, a location found Bing Maps), a program like Internet Explorer, or hub - an area that collocates data from multiple sources.
The Office hub, for example, brings together PowerPoint, Excel and Word documents, you can access the SharePoint data (if the back end running on SharePoint Server 2010) and provides access to OneNote.
Of less interest for mobile professionals, perhaps, is the Xbox LIVE hub, giving you access to your account and customize your avatar.
Everyone who signs up for a Windows Live ID receive 25 MB of storage space on SkyDrive, which includes the ability to automatically upload images - which, thanks to the dedicated camera button, can be taken with the handset in standby mode.
Zune software lets you synchronize music, video and photos, but calendar and contacts must be synchronized wirelessly - with, for example, Windows Live or Google account.
This is the same for all the Windows 7 Phone handsets, though, and Dell is just to keep up with Microsoft's protocol.
Performance and battery lifeWe had no problems with 1GHz Venue Pro's response, and Windows 7 Phone itself is a permissive operating system to use once you get used to their weaknesses.
Dell does not specify how long it expects the 1400 mAh battery to last.
Our experience was Venue Pro a little less long-lived than the average high-end smartphone.
It had no trouble keeping going all day without a battery boost the Light use (mobile e-mail and phone calls).
But when we started using GPS for longish stretches battery suffered.
You should expect to require recharging during the day if you think of yourself as a \superuser \\ u0026quot;.
Some business users, especially in the hard-line Windows environments, you may find this an appealing combination.

True Windows Phone 7 sales in 2010 were less than 675000, warns analyst

Windows 7 Phone updates must be filled out through official channels, said Microsoft. (Credit: Josh Lowensohn / CNET) If you updated your Windows Phone 7 unit outside Microsoft's official channels, you will not be able to use the mobile platform, the latest version. It is, according to Microsoft's Brandon Watson, who wrote about the case on the company's developer blog yesterday. Anyone who has updated its Windows 7 Phone devices to build 7390 through informal mechanisms will be unable to complete the update to the company's latest build, 7392, he wrote. Despite the fact that many have claimed that an unofficial update mechanism worked fine for them, we warned that the phones that are updated via this method would not be able to update the past to build 7390, wrote Watson, a senior vice president for Windows phone. Unfortunately for those customers out there who acted on information from sources outside Microsoft, the rubber meets the road today.
AN IMPORTANT security update for Windows 7 Phone (WP7) devices will not work unless you update your mobile phone via unofficial means.
Rather than adding new features to the device, the update fixes nine fraudulent third-party digital certificates.
This week Microsoft will release a'7392'patch that protects Windows 7 Phone devices from attacks based on potential vulnerabilities stemming from an incident where a hacker or hackers stole nine digital certificates from SSL certification firm Comodo .
Microsoft began rolling out the update this week.
Microsoft released a security advisory on the issue in March, and other companies like Apple have been busy patching their mobile operating systems against the threat.
The fact that some people have turned to unofficial updates for Windows phone 7 is not so surprising.
But if you have a Windows phone, and have updated it through unofficial channels, you're going to have a problem.
Back in February, Microsoft tried to update the Samsung Omnia seven telephones, but long before, were some of the updated units bricked because of problems with the update.
This is because the building'7392'will not update the phones have been updated to the latest build'7390'unofficially.
Microsoft pulled the patch to fix mistakes and tried again.
It also means that any future Windows phone patches are not likely to work, so in practice the phone will be stuck.
Again, it caused problems.
Telephones updated via supported method does not contain an official image and can not be updated further at this time.
Since then the company has come under fire for its update process, leading Microsoft Corporate Vice President Joe Belfiore last month to admit that his company suffered from a lack of preparation.
Watson has also clearly stated that Microsoft did not feel it was worth the resources to change the status quo.
But it seems Microsoft did not learn his lesson.
He said, due to the scheduling of engineering resources, we did not expect to have to undue the changes made to the phones that are not supported by these methods.
Last week the company started distributing an update to the Samsung Omnia 7 units, only to be forced to once again stop the update because of a technical problem.
Although we can not rule out having a solution in the future, for now there is no solution.
Microsoft hopes to start the update process soon.
In practice, he says that if you have updated the unofficial, and now can not update further, you are stuck, and it's your own fault.
Microsoft says that they are receiving the error code will most likely have to go back to a store and send the phone back to a production problem.
He added, We understand that this is not ideal.
Fortunately for the people, are third-party vendors who created the supported tools are working to resolve to get these phones back on the officially supported scenario.
Unfortunately, our engineers priorities focused on improving the process by which updates will Windows phone, issuing the security update that you just got, and work to Mango to the market.
Microsoft says that it will not be working to resolve itself, but it will work with third parties to validate its solution.
Undoing this specific problem was not our plan.
Until that happens, but those who went through unofficial channels to update their devices seem to be out of luck.
μ.
I personally feel really bad for customers who find themselves with phones that are now fixed, said Watson.

Windows Phone Unofficial Updater Causes Issues

Were you one of these Windows 7 Phone users, frustratedwith Microsoft's slow pace of updates, using a homebrew solution download software tweaks before its official push out? Yes? Then you might have a slight problem.
Despite the fact that many have argued that anunofficial update mechanism worked fine for them, Brandon Watson, Microsoft Director of developer experience for Windows 7 Phone, wrote in a May 4 postingon TheWindows Blog, warned us that the phones that are updated via this method were not going to to update the past to build 7390.
Thats a reference to the Theresienstadt cents NoDo update, which strengthened the app-loading speeds and introducedcut-and-paste functionality to your Windows Smartphone.
Unfortunately for those customers out there who acted oninformation from sources outside of Microsoft, rubber meets the road today, he added.

Microsoft is currently prepping its first-ever security update for Windows 7 Phone, known as build 7392, that goodwill protect the devices against a vulnerability due to fraudulent certificates.
In addition to Windows 7 Phone, affected Microsoft products including Windows Mobile 6.x, Zune, Kin, and Windows.
In early April, issued the developer Chris Walsh of ChevronWP7.Updater, who gave Windows 7 Phone users abilityat least theoryto theirdevices update the software in advance of the official push through.
Three days later, though, hereversed course, asking people to avoid using his homebrewed tool.
I waslater informed by Microsoft that there were several problems with my tool andthe way it changes the phones, hewrote.
Watson's blog mail describes how unofficial tool, at least according to Microsoft, Windows unreadable Phone 7s underlying software.
The state machine looked more like pre-7390 than it did in 7390, he wrote.
Hence the error messages. Chris Walsh, in the May 1 4posting on her blog, asked users whod Walshed their devices to posttheir phone brand and model information from the settings, and their carrier. Personally, Zune updated 3 Walshed phones for 7392 just fine this morning. SoId love to hear if you have problems, so I can cheque it out and see theissue, he wrote. If you have posted below with your details I will be incontact with you with a solution to fix it. Walsh also suggested a solution in question was quite simplereally. Watson wrote: The creators of the tool is unsupported aclever gang, and wanted to get a timely solution designed for customers who have put Heir phones in this condition. we will work with them to validate their solution and applaud the team for takingresponsibility to do this. Windows Phone 7 owners told to stick to official updates

This week Microsoft will release a'7392'patch that protects Windows 7 Phone devices from attacks based on potential vulnerabilities stemming from an incident where a hacker or hackers stole nine digital certificates from SSL certification firm Comodo .

Bank of America cashes in on Windows Phone 7 with new app

Bank of America has finally made its appearance on the Windows phone 7.Via company's new app, Bank of America customers can cheque balances, transfer funds, pay bills, and find the nearest Bank of America locations.
(According to the mobile tech world, working as the latter functionality quite well with WP7 integrated Bing Maps feature.) Of course, security is a major problem with mobile banking, but Bank of America says that the app transactions have the same level of security as their online counterparts.
Bank of America already offers same app on the Android Market Market and the iTunes Store, but Microsoft is apparently so proud of WP7 version of the company contained the program on their Windows Phone Blog.

Nokia's Stephen Elop is only a 'short term CEO'

Counting Nokia as a tech company that does not jump into the media tablet pond without dipping a toe in first.
The Finnish handset maker will not come out with two hundred and first tablet on the market that you can not tell from all the others, according to Nokia chief executive Stephen Elop.
There are now over 200 different pills on the market, and only one of them [iPad] does very well, said Elop in an interview on Finnish TV this week.
My challenge to the team is that I do not want to [Nokia] to be two hundred and first tablet on the market that you can not tell from all the others, he continued, according to a mocoNewsreport the interview.
We need to take a unique perspective Nokia.
So the team is working hard on something that would be differentiated from the others on the market.
We are in a hurry, but there is a rush to do the right thing.
The assets include Nokia's own proprietary operating system, Symbian and Linux-based mobile operating MeeGo like Nokia developed with Intel and others.
Nokia will continue to provide support for Symbian and work on MeeGo despite the new direction the company is taking with Windows 7 Phone, insisted Elop on this year's Mobile World Congress.
Of course that was then.
Last week, Nokia announced that they will transfer 3,000 employees who work on Symbian development to Accenture.
The week before, put Nokia and Microsoft's official stamp of partnership to develop Windows 7 Phone devices.
And what about Google Android? Given Nokia's commitment to Windows, it seems unlikely that the company would turn to a rival operating system for a future tablet.
In addition, Nokia believes that the margins are too slim for Android-based phones, said Elop PCMag in February.
Even if a company is making all kinds of money with Android, it is very well understood that ...
It is possible that the company feels the same way about Android tablets.
Of course, Elop not argue with Google's ability to bring Android-based devices to market in time.
The handset maker will not deliver its first Windows 7-based Nokia Soft phones in volume until 2012, he said, despite admitting that there is pressure to deliver [the first device] in the year.

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer pitches Windows Phone at BlackBerry World

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer took the stage at the BlackBerry World Conference in Orlando, Florida, on Tuesday and allegedly pitched Phone 7.Windows Phone Windows 7 is Microsoft's smartphone operating system - a competitor to Research In Motion's BlackBerry smartphones.
I do not know whose idea it was to get Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer to Research In Motion's BlackBerry major World Conference in Orlando, but I will be looking for a new job if I were him or her.
Ballmer was on stage at the BlackBerry event to formally announce that Microsoft Bing Search and Bing Maps products will be built into the operating system for future mobile devices from RIM and not only available in the form of an app (like Bing already), according to a Report from Information Week magazine.
RIM co-CEO Mike Lazaridis ceded the stage piece out in his keynote address to his competitor, who continued to announce that Microsoft's Bing Bing Search and Maps products will be fully integrated into the BlackBerry platform later this year.
The move makes Bing BlackBerry's standard search and mapping technology, Google nudging out of that spot on RIM products.
Rather than simply delivering a standalone app on the BlackBerry platform (which is already available, by the way), Ballmer said that Bing will be rooted deep within the operating system and more fully baked into the user interface.
Time magazine's Techland called the teaming of the two competitors unholy.
He did not say exactly when it will happen, but suggested that there will be a part of the BlackBerry OS 7, which will first be available in the 9900/9930 summer Bold as RIM's refreshed user interface.
Microsoft CEO was given the opportunity to talk about cooperation between the two companies during the lecture from RIM co-chief Mike Lazaridis, said information week.
The announcement, Microsoft was the biggest news comes from the BlackBerry World Conference keynote.
After talking up the Bing and BlackBerry relationship, Ballmer went on a bit of a tangent in his company's favor, said information week.
But Ballmer did not stop there.
The announcement, Microsoft was the biggest news comes from the BlackBerry World Conference keynote, wrote Eric Zeman of Information Week report.
Oh, no.
But Ballmer did not stop there.
He actually pitched Windows 7 Phone to the public, albeit briefly.
Oh, no.

Read it again: Steve Ballmer, CEO of Microsoft, took the stage at the BlackBerry World, and pitched Windows 7 Phone, its competing platform for smart phones.
What was RIM thinking? Clearly Lazaridis could have made this announcement himself.

True, Ballmer has his own speech style and bombastic flair.

Lazaridis is, by comparison, slightly less vigorous and expressive.
But to give a direct competitor to opportunity is a big mistake.
I have to wonder if the smiles Lazaridis and Ballmer's faces as they greeted him on stage were real.
Other leaders took the stage.
Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen stood before an audience of 6000 attendees and talked a lot about Adobe AIR and Flash, as realised on the RIM playbook.
Narayen and Lazaridis was sure to congratulate each other for a job well done in the playbook
.
Lazaridis pointed out at least a dozen times how important Flash is a true Internet experience
.
He failed to mention on stage, but that the new BlackBerry OS 7 will not support Flash, and will instead use the HTML5 for embedded video playback

Bank of America Deploys First Windows 7 Phone Mobile Banking App The Charlotte, NC-based bank expands its portfolio of mobile app with Windows 7 Phone while dropping a specific app iPad Tags: Mobile Banking, Bank Of America, Windows 7 Phone, Apple IOS, iPad, Smartphones, By Matt Gunn May 03, elaborated in 2011 Bank of America's mobile banking portfolio this week with the addition of downloadable native applications for Windows 7 Phone platform and Apple's iPad.
Bank of America dropped its official app for Windows 7 Phone to Market Place.
And they will see general improvements in the appearance as well.
Users can use the program to pay their bills, keep an eye on their accounts and find the nearest ATM.

Microsoft launched the new mobile operating system in October last year.

While the bank has incorporated all the features of its Mobile Banking from Bank of America Android and IOS apps - things like account balances, transaction history, bill payment and branch and ATM location - it worked to design the program to match the look and feel unique to Windows 7 Phone platform.
Bank of America Windows Mobile Phone App.
It was important, Warshawsky says, not making this operating system, users feel that they were given an app that was simply ported over from another smartphone version.
Some of the bank's customers had been asking for it too.
We certainly had some feedback from customers asking about a WP7 experience, and it's something we want to offer to our customers, says Warshawsky.
Both because they ask for it and because we expect the platform to grow.
Eliminates the question of whether Bank of America is serious about being available on any mobile platform, while the bank launched a version of its Mobile Banking tailored for Apple's iPad.
In addition to carrying the standard set of features that are available in BofA mobile applications, bringing iPad edition also features an improved calendar display eBills, transfers and bill payment transactions and view balances in a bank ledger layout.
Warshawsky says iPad screen real estate lends itself to a richer experience, and that BofA has taken advantage of the extra space.

Worrying Windows Phone 7 Sales Figures: Possible Failure

We have to wonder if Microsoft is worried about Windows 7 Phone sales figures? The low numbers show that WP7 could be a possible error, but why? There have been reports that in the first six weeks only WP7 674,000 units were sold, as compared to other phones in the very low indeed.
The increasing number of viable mobile platform is a good scenario for end users, but developers seem to be finding it difficult to target all platforms simultaneously.
The data were collected by the analyst Eldar Murtazin, which PCMag was quick to point out the predicted together by Microsoft and Nokia.
Each platform to bring their own semantics and paradigms for performing the same tasks, leading to much confusion.
The figure looked bigger than that, but you must remember that a number of phones given to employees.
Android, for example, support the development of Java, C and C + + (mostly Java), while the iPhone development can be done in C / C + + / Objective-C (mostly Objective-C).
It is this analyst thinks that Windows 7 Phone is a failure.
Windows 7 Phone however, only support the development by using a form of Silverlight, using C #.
We struggle to know why Microsoft still has not come up with an alternative to Google's Android mobile OS or Apple's IOS? Microsoft was once on top of their game, with Windows Mobile to be a popular mobile OS, but times have changed, and the struggling company is unable to adapt.
No C / C + + code is allowed.
One, we can not be sure of the exact figures, and two, Apple will still laugh at Microsoft's numbers, when they sold more phones iPhone 4 in its first weekend.
This creates an immediate barrier for those with existing code in C / C + + which is absolutely forbidden to make it difficult to share any code at all.
Things are not only bad for WP7, Microsoft seems to have a problem with the Zune player as well.
Microsoft's new online tool helps those who have written IOS software, it essentially translates their IOS API calls to the corresponding Windows 7 Phone API calls.
They are certainly not the company they once were, at least they have the Xbox.
This is not a means to automatically write the code for IOS and get WP7 code in return, is it more of an exploratory tool that can help developers to understand more of the Windows 7 Phone development using its own code as a base
Where do you think Microsoft is wrong? What can they do to get back with the big boys?.

Microsoft issues first security patch for Windows Phone 7

Computer World - Microsoft Tuesday released the first security update for Windows 7 Phone, replicating the smart-phone users a piece of the company gave the Windows desktop users six weeks ago.
Microsoft has begun to deploy a security update to Windows 7 Phone Handset
When the update will actually reach users is unclear.
.
At the time of release, the update is not available for all Windows 7 Phone customers, said Microsoft in a security advisory.
The so-called 7392 update - the move to OS version 7.0.7392.0 - fixes nine fake third-party digital certificates, the company said in a blog mail on Tuesday
Instead, customers will get a warning on the device when the update is available for their phone.
.
Tuesday's update is designed to blacklist nine digital certificates acquired by a hacker in March from Comodo, one of many companies that issue SSL (Secure Socket Layer) certificate.
It provides no additional functionality to Microsoft's mobile operating system
This patch moves the relevant certificates to \trusted publishers'CA Windows phone, which helps to insure that these false certificates are not inadvertently used, Microsoft said in a statement on its Windows phone update history Web page.
.
On 23 March, Microsoft updated Windows XP, Server 2003, Vista, 2008 Server, Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2 to add the stolen certificates in each operating system's blacklist.
How do you get 7392 depends on your mobile operator and which updates you have installed, read the post
Google and Mozilla have updated their Chrome and Firefox browsers in the past.
.
Microsoft did not respond to questions Tuesday, including why the Windows 7 Phone update was released six weeks after the Windows Desktop Update.
Customers with Deutsche Telekom and Optus, for example, will be in March 7392 and update together
In a blog post, said a Microsoft executive that the update would not reach all the Windows 7 Phone users immediately.
.
How do you get 7392 will depend on your mobile operator and which updates you have installed, said Eric Hautala, general manager of Windows 7 Phone their customer experience engineering team, in a May 3 blog.
If you have already installed the update in March, you will receive 7392 as a standalone download or with a future service
Customers with Deutsche Telekom and Optus, for example, will have 7392 and March update together ...
.
[But] if you have already installed the update in March, you will receive 7392 as a standalone download or with a future update.
The fake certificates were detailed in a Microsoft Security Advisory at the end of March
When a smart phone will receive the update, it shows OS version: 7.0.7392.0 in the device's screen.
.
According to Microsoft's schedule, all U.S.
Questions, but later withdrawn by the certification authority Comodo, they were present in all supported versions of Windows, Windows Mobile 6.x, Windows Phone 7, Kin and Zune devices
users of Windows 7 Phone-powered smart phones already received March update - called NoDo of the company - or are about to receive this update, making it uncertain when they would get the certificate-related update.
.
More HTC and LG smart phone owners reported a range of Windows 7 Phone fora on Tuesday that they had received the update, however.
They affect these web properties: login.live.com, mail.google.com, www.google.com, login.yahoo.com, login.skype.com, addons.mozilla.org and \Global Administrator \\ u0026 # 39;
But some who had used an unauthorised tool last month to update NoDo said they were not able to install yesterday's patch.
.
After the developer Chris Walsh tool launched in early April - before Microsoft and asked him to take it - Hautala had claimed that users can not receive future updates, or other problems can occur if they used Walsh software.
Walsh reported Tuesday that he had successfully extracted and installed the security update on three different phones that he had previously walshed - the nickname others have given to the process of grabbing the early updates by using their tools - but asked others to share their experiences.
More blacks, said they had received error code 81080005 after the updated were not installed.
To install the security update, users must connect their smartphone to a PC or Mac.

Nokia puts Symbian OS out to pasture

Nokia's way back to the top are already demanding, especially with its first Windows 7 Phone devices unlikely to be on shelves until the end of 2011.
Add in last week's job cuts and staff changes and you could be forgiven for thinking Espoo were on their way further down in rank rather than aiming to get back to the top.
Of course, slashing 4,000 employees and move an additional 3,000 Symbian employees of Accenture, where they will continue to work on delivering software updates to Nokia's aging mobile platform, is hard to dress up as good news.
So, what do all the changes for Nokia owners and those who want to pony-up and bag herself a new Nokia phone in the future? Ultimately, Nokia will be hoping punters will not notice any dip in performance.
On the contrary.
It seems these changes point to a Nokia that is not focused on simply shifting epic amounts of phones, but instead focus on the core quality, at least in the short term.
Hopefully this will stop a repeat of the nasty delays that followed Nokia in recent months by Olli Pekka Kallasvuo's reign as CEO.
But what about the changes in Symbian employees? Hopefully, this shift should not make much difference.
Updates to the service has not been time in the past and the staff seems to go from one company to another, rather than undergoing a major reorganization.
The pressure will still be getting much vaunted Symbian Anna update to the Symbian 3 units as soon as possible.
Maybe, but this change will give Nokia, which added pressure to insure that users get the software they need in quick-smart way.
Any other approach would spell disaster for a company struggling to show why it is still relevant in today's mobile phone market.
In essence, makes Nokia's problems do not just come down to a large workforce.
It is definitely a concern that outsourcing Symbian are updates to Accenture will exacerbate problems with communication.
Of course, Symbian stepping out of the limelight with what Windows 7 Phone arrival.
But this change has the potential to consolidate the problems that Stephen Elop has fought hard to eradicate.
These changes should really make for a leaner, meaner Nokia.
But the proof will be in the products, not the staff structure.
Only when we see Symbian Anna appears on the N8, and W7 and W8 hit shelves, we'll really be able to judge whether Nokia is back to his brilliant best.

Windows Phone 7 update stalls on Samsung Omnia 7

news Microsoft has said it is to have more technical problems with its Windows 7 Phone update.
Microsoft began pushing its first big Windows 7 Phone patch over a month ago, but some - as owners of Samsung Omnia 7-ers - still waiting.
Microsoft has admitted that it has stopped sending updates to Samsung Omnia 7 phones.
Microsoft began rolling out their NoDo update for Windows 7 Phone over a month ago, and even set up a tracking page, so users can keep an eye on when their carriers would be pushing the update to their devices.
Photo credit: SamsungMicrosoft's Michael Stroh, who writes the Windows blog, acknowledged Thursday that the company has stopped sending updates to Samsung Omnia 7 phones.
But while most Windows 7 Phone users now have received their updates and Microsoft's tracking page is blank-blessed some Windows 7 Phone customers are still waiting.
They are the same phones were useless, or \bricked \\ u0026quot;, when Microsoft began rolling out the so-called NoDo update in February.
According to comments in Microsoft Windows Phone Blog, the company has temporarily suspended updates to the Samsung Omnia 7 units due to a technical problem with the update package on the phone model.
The team discovered a technical problem with the update package for this model, Stroh wrote in answer to questions posted on the Windows phone blog.
In addition, Microsoft confirmed some Samsung Focus customers have not received updates, and the company looks at the situation.
His response was first reported by WinRumors area.
The NoDo update to Windows phone is actually the second update, Microsoft has released Windows 7 Phone, the first was an update that, in itself, was intended to enable smoother updates for the devices. In this case, found the owners of a Samsung device's units bricked by the update, even though Microsoft claimed that the update worked just fine for nine out of ten users. Microsoft shows that testing a new service pack for the Samsung Omnia 7 is almost done, and hopes to CV shipments soon. Gartner: Windows 7 Phone will overtake me ... Microsoft finally starts Windows Tel ... Microsoft: Windows 7 Phone update failed ... Galaxy S Gingerbread Update \pace ....
Stroh said Microsoft is working to resolve the issue.
Work on fixing and testing package is almost finished, and the team hopes to resume shipments update soon, wrote Stroh.

Microsoft maps WinPhone 7 path for iPhone coders

May 2, 2011 by adinaTags: Angry Birds, Kik, Layar, mobile, Skype, Spotify, Windows, Windows Phone 7During the MIX11 event sponsored by Microsoft, the company revealed it had captured in software development in a spectacular way with a number of important Windows 7 Telephone applications that are being exploited in with the occasion of the Mango, autumn 2011 update.
Microsoft continues to struggle to get its Windows 7 Phone update to work with certain models of Samsung mobile phones.
The first was unveiled Skype, which will benefit from deeper access to hardware for the Mango, such as the microphone.
Microsoft has temporarily stopped sending Windows 7 Phone updates to Samsung Omnia7 phones, according to a posting on Microsoft Windows 7 Phone blog, due to a technical problem with the service pack for this model, said Michael Stroh, a Microsoft technology writer and member of the development team that created the mobile operating system.
The demo of the application does not refer to video chat, but Mango does not support the camera in front so far.
Work on fixing and testing package is almost finished, and the team hopes to CV shipments update soon, Stroh said, adding that he could not give a more specific schedule.
Skype will be ready in the fall, as Microsoft said, when Mango would be available.
Microsoft is also investigating reports that some owners of Samsung mobile phones Focus in the U.S.
Spotify is also expected to come and take up the iPhone and Android versions are already available.
have not received notification, said Stroh.
The application must also wait for Mango.
Microsoft's problems with Windows 7 Phone Samsung on some models goes back to February when a former Windows 7 Phone update caused these phones to brick or become useless.
Also on board for a couple of weeks will be Kik Messenger, which is very well known after being banished from RIM's BlackBerry because of competition with the latter's Messenger.
Later this month the company is scheduled to give a new release of development tools that programmers use to build applications that run with Mango.
The program does not have Mango and expected to have instant alerts in addition to other functions that are simultaneously open and have the background to update later.
Layar will come with camera direct access for augmented reality application.
Such programs already exist, an example is LG's own tools.
Angry Birds from the Rovio was finally confirmed for Windows 7 Phone.
No Mango functions required by the program, but it will support multitasking.
The application is expected to reach Windows Phone Market Place on 25 May.
It is a tumultuous history that Microsoft has had with the game and the company had problems with the Rovio by creating an icon for the game in a mockup, but the developer had never promised to port the game over.
WP7 has been moving relatively quickly compared to other mobile stores and now has about 15,000 applications.
This is more than Hewlett Packard WebOS App Catalogue or BlackBerry App World.
The low level of telephone sales of the platform, as well as the relative novelty has still kept it back, IOS has over 350 000 applications and the Android Market is 120 000 or even more.
