Microsoft, Telefonica Court Developers With Cloud-Based API Services

Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT) is still getting hot and apologized over the updates of Windows 7 Phone platform, but it is also pushing ahead in another important area for the mobile-one that may prove to be a more successful and natural place for Microsoft as a company in the long run.
By Heather McLeanToday, Microsoft and Telefonica has announced a partnership that creates new opportunities for application development across PC, TV, mobile and beyond, driven by Telefonica BlueVia new developer platform.
Today launches a new agreement with the multinational mobile phone operator Telefonica (NYSE: TEF) to integrate Microsoft's Azure cloud-based development environment with Telefonica open API project, BlueVia.
BlueVia software development kit (SDK) for.
Under the new partnership, the developers could get access to Telefonica's BlueVia software development kit and create applications in Microsoft's.
NET offers a rich array of development tools, including Microsoft.
NET Framework, Microsoft Silverlight and Microsoft Visual Studio 2010.
NET Framework, Microsoft Silverlight and Microsoft Visual Studio 2010, especially for improved design and creation of applications that integrate BlueVia APIs, such as text messages (SMS), advertising, and use contextual information.
Telefonica, which operates a range of mobile operations, including O2 in Europe, says these Microsoft platforms have been optimized for developers to use them in the creation of programs that integrate Telefonica APIs for services such as SMS, advertising networks and placement services.
The SDK includes Windows Azure, Microsoft's open cloud platform for the creation of Internet-scale applications without the initial investment in infrastructure needed by developers.
Under BlueVia terms, each service has a different income divided by Telefonica.
This cooperation assignment combines functionality from telco Telefonica with Microsoft's experience in Web development and cloud, to help drive innovation in applications and services in an easy and frictionless way.
For example, using the SMS API, a developer gets only 10 percent cuts, Telefonica uses mobile advertising inventory and get click-throughs give a publisher a 50 percent cut, publish a paid app through BlueVia, a developer gets a 70 percent cut of download, and so on.
NET Framework, said Vivek Dev, director for global new services, Telefonica.
One of the essential parts of today's announcement is that this is not just Microsoft's play to push its own Windows 7 Phone operating system.
Our partnership with Microsoft will accelerate BlueVia reach and expand our presence beyond mobile to PC, TV and gaming platforms.
To date, Azure was used to develop and serve tens of thousands of applications for a variety of mobile platforms, including IOS, Android and Symbian.
Combining our assets will create programs that provide valuable entertainment and productivity to 280 million Telefonica customers worldwide.
On top of that, today announced makes specific mention of the make Telefonica API useable beyond mobile to TV, PC and gaming platforms.
BlueVia SDK.
But clearly, it's about promoting Windows 7 Phone platform, well, let Knut Asrud, General Manager, Microsoft Communications Sector EMEA, in an interview with mocoNews.
NET is a set of drag-and-drop controls and templates for Visual Studio 2010 that provides an intuitive development environment for developers.
BlueVia, who has been in the works for more than a year already, was formally launched in December 2010 as an invitation-only controlled beta (with the developers allowed to invite other developers).
Windows Azure allows developers to host their applications in the cloud, and supports multiple development languages \u200b\u200bincluding.
Although the SDK is free to download, says Jose Valles, chairman of BlueVia, mocoNews that 600 developers have downloaded the SDK and so far only 25 have developed apps using them.
NET, Java, PHP, Ruby and Python.
They are on different platforms: web apps using HTML5, Android, WP7 and even a Mac app on the list.
Applications are on Windows Azure can also be published on the Windows phone 7, Windows 7-based PCs, slate and netbooks, Internet Explorer 9, Xbox 360, and any other device platforms.
As for the need for major launches, said Valles that the group is also working on a few best-selling, high profile app publishers (in the direction of Rovio, Evernote and the like) integrating APIs from BlueVia in their programs, with the first of these comes out in the next couple of months, he said.
Select independent software vendors have tested BlueVia SDK.
Right now it remains to show that the APIs work, he said.
NET prior to launch, and programs that have already been created include: media networks, in collaboration with Tweetalondoncab, has developed TAXI STOP, a passenger booking and fleet management app for smartphones with.
The Telefonica attraction for developers is not a bad 1:00 to 1:25-country footprint with nearly 290 million subscribers, and additional services as a centralized cash collection and payment system across the entire network that accounts for all the different tax structures and the different app Payments He says that all the money is converted to the euro, and the developers get paid every time they are incurred € 200 so that developers do not have to deal with this myself.
NET Framework and Windows Azure, and expand functionality to include feature phones by exploiting BlueVia SMS API while cutting the typical development cord times by up to 30%, and Schakra developed GoGoStat Connect, an app to control how different people come to different times or in different places and situations, whether by telephone, text, social media or email.
But it still means that developers working end where Telefonica network ends.
GoGoStat Connect is built for Windows 7 Phone, hosted on Windows Azure, using SMS from BlueVia to mix social media activity with mobile communications and Web services.
The issue of cross-operator API will only be solved if projects like Wireless Application Consortium ever get off of the ground.
Given the combined capabilities - and wealth - of Visual Studio 2010, Microsoft Silverlight, Internet Explorer, Windows Azure, Windows Phone 7, Windows 7 and Windows Live services, we believe there are great prospects for innovation in the connected consumer experience and cloud.
Valles Telefonica's chief envoy to the WAC project, and he claims it is on track for the launch of the first cross-operator API once a year.
We can not wait to see what our developers come up with.
