Intel, LG breath life into MeeGo

After being sidelined earlier this year by Nokia in favor of Microsoft's Windows 7 Phone has MeeGo mobile operating system lately got a boost in Asia.
Reuters reports that LG Electronics has become a working group to deliver a handset-oriented version of MeeGo device platform, joining ZTE and China Mobile, potentially providing a new impetus for the platform by Nokia's decision to adopt Windows phone for its high-end smartphones.
On 12 April at the Intel Developer Forum in Beijing, Intel announced that it had established a Joint Innovation Center MeeGo with China's Tencent.
According to Valtteri Halla, a member of MeeGo technical steering committee, has been reduced commitment from Nokia opens opportunities for others to come in.
A few days later, Reuters reported that South Korea's LG Electronics had joined with other technology companies in a task force to create aa handset version of the mobile operating system.
It was noted that the presence of the handset number one had withheld other phone makers from adopting the technology.
Tencent, which claims to be China's largest and most used Internet service portal, and Intel have collaborated on MeeGo development for the past year.
According to the website Digital Trends, LG has no obligation to use MeeGo on phones, even if it is set to use Linux-based OS for in-car infotainment systems.
The new Innovation Center in Shanghai is a result of that collaboration and now has 60 engineers.
But Nokia's decision to switch from Windows to support MeeGo Phone would imply that this provider does not currently believe that OS is able to engage in high-specification, mass-market smartphones.
The center will focus on developing applications for MeeGo to run on a variety of devices.
Games are reported to be a high priority and is a specialty Tencent.
Although the stated goal of the group is to develop a handset version of MeeGo, Reuters report quoted an LG spokesman as saying, At that time LG has no definitive plans to mass produce devices with MeeGo non-car infotainment systems, however, he pointed out that LG works MeeGo with several different teams.
