Meego Mobile OS Gains Support From LG

With Nokia dumping MeeGo for Microsoft's Windows 7 Phone platform, Linux-based mobile operating system is supported by mobile phone brand LG.
After being sidelined earlier this year by Nokia in favor of Microsoft's Windows 7 Phone has MeeGo mobile operating system lately got a boost in Asia.
After being abandoned by Nokia, chipmaker Intel formed a consortium of Asian companies to develop a handset version of the operating MeeGo systemThe The consortium consists of companies that ZTA, Tencent and China Mobile.
On 12 April at the Intel Developer Forum in Beijing, Intel announced that it had established a Joint Innovation Center MeeGo with China's Tencent.
Reuters reports that the Korean mobile phone maker LG has joined the consortium to develop systems based on OS.
A few days later, Reuters reported that South Korea's LG Electronics had joined with other technology companies in a task force to create aa handset version of the mobile operating system.
At this time, LG has no definitive plans to mass produce devices with MeeGo other than car infotainment systems, said an LG spokesman in a statement.
Tencent, which claims to be China's largest and most used Internet service portal, and Intel have collaborated on MeeGo development for the past year.
Intel has also established an innovation center with Tencent, which will focus on building applications for MeeGo that can run on multiple devices.
The new Innovation Center in Shanghai is a result of that collaboration and now has 60 engineers.
The Intel Tencent partnership will make all types of applications, including games apps.
The center will focus on developing applications for MeeGo to run on a variety of devices.
Tencent owns the largest online portal in China and specializes in games.
Games are reported to be a high priority and is a specialty Tencent.
Tablet devices running MeeGo is already available on the market, but the OS has not yet made an appearance on smart phones.
Although the stated goal of the group is to develop a handset version of MeeGo, Reuters report quoted an LG spokesman as saying, At that time LG has no definitive plans to mass produce devices with MeeGo non-car infotainment systems, however, he pointed out that LG works MeeGo with several different teams.
