Nokia and Microsoft seal partnership

Nokia and Microsoft have lately announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to partner and build devices based on Microsoft Windows 7 Phone operating system. Nokia and Microsoft had first announced their partnership on 11 February. A press release says that hundreds of personnel from both companies working together to develop a portfolio of new Nokia devices to be ready for volume shipments in 2012. The pressure is high to develop and launch the first product in 2011 itself. There will be public outreach to developers, and Microsoft will release Windows phone developer registration fee for the Nokia developers.
The two companies will also open a new Nokia-branded global App Store that uses Windows Marketplace infrastructure, they said.
Developers can publish and distribute through a single portal, now Windows Phone, Symbian and Series 40 users.

Last month, IDC says that Android is poised to become the number one mobile operating system in 2011, while Nokia-Microsoft deal could run Windows phone to the number two position in 2015.
For now, however, the Windows phone probably only capture about 5.5 percent of the market this year, according to IDC.
