Global Android ad serving stock has exceeded the iPhone OS for the first time, according to a new report from an independent mobile ad network InMobi.
The report showed that although the iPhone OS and Android both continue to take part on a global basis, in recent months Android growth has been increasing and has now overtaken that of the iPhone OS.
The report showed that Android smartphones become a primary gateway to the digital content, as the platform provides consumers with many options for the unit, with varying price points - to create a real alternative to the desktop or laptop.
In addition, many households across Asia, Eastern Europe and Africa are dependent on the Android smart phones as the main platform to consume media, instead of a web-based PC.
The report showed that total mobile advertising impressions in InMobi network grew by 21% (from December 2010 to March 2011), driven by the large influx of smartphone impression, which increased by 2.8 billion during the period.
Although Nokia is still the number one position with a 40% share of global impact.
Nokia lost -3.9 share points in 90 days, while Samsung (1.6 percentage pts), Apple (1.9 percentage PTS) and HTC (2.8 percentage pts) had to share.
Globally, 35% of all mobile ad impressions now happening on smart phones.
The smartphone segment grew by 50% in North America in the last 90 days, with three out of four mobile views in North America is now on a lap smartphone.iPhone OS 9.7 percentage points in March 2011, by early February launch of the Apple iPhone at Verizon Wireless in the United States.
Although iPhone OS had a boost with Verizon launch, caught Android 4.0 share points and leads the iPhone OS 5.2 share points.
The aggressive growth of Android has moved the phone manufacturer HTC in second place with (6.1 percentage points) and 2.2% share of impressions.
With both platforms have strong support, the most interesting storey of 2011 is to see what happens with Windows 7 Phone and Nokia, said Frisbie.
